Out Of Hours Study (OOHS) Controlled trials entry (Registry number ISRCTN70398358)

The Out of Hours Study aims to establish whether inviting women to breast screening appointments in the evening or weekend will improve turn-out to the screening programme.

Women in Manchester and Bristol who are due for routine breast screening will be cluster randomised depending on their month of birth to one of 4 arms:

  • normal working hours appointment
  • evening appointment
  • weekend appointment
  • normal appointment with the option to change to weekend or evening

As usual, all women will have the option to change to a more convenient appointment time if necessary. Attendance at these appointments will be compared to see whether changing the current schedule will be beneficial and improve cancer detection rates.

This study is funded by the NHS Breast Screening Programme.
